I read the interview and loved it. As someone approaching 50 it’s good to see that when it comes to being free, age (whatever that word means) is not a limiting factor. I have subscribed to your blog and I look forward to following your adventures.
I worked as a cardiac nurse for 22 years and realized that health care is a profession where you improve the health of others by ruining your own. On 12/12/12 I woke up and quit. They tried to kill me but I chose to live. It’s good to see that I am not alone.

Thanks so much Sunshine! We have role models to inspire *us*. I actually travel with an old newspaper cutting that’s getting a bit torn and shredded now. It’s the story/photo of a ninety-something woman sky diving! And I havs a thumbnail on my desktop of another ninety yr old swimming at the beach. They inspire us.

those are beautiful stories, Alison. i also remember an elderly lady (cannot remember her age) who went back to school and got her a college degree. i think it was a law degree. she always wanted to finish college and age was not going to keep her from finishing!

Hi there…I find your blog very inspirational but I’m wondering too..how do you handle family at home? We are part of the boomers too, but also the sandwich generation..looking after our kids and elderly parents. Want to travel but are torn in so many directions. We’ll be much older by the time we can leave. Also, do you plan to go eventually remain in Canada (i.e. for health benefits…we’re Canadian too)? Thanks!

Just realised you asked some more questions here – we don’t have family at home – Don has one adult son and his family who live in Sweden, and I don’t have children. We have both been orphans for over ten years, my mother being the last of our parents to leave this world. Sometimes life makes you wait eh? Certainly you can’t do the kind of traveling we’re doing unless you’re willing to abandon everyone which I suspect you’re not. I encourage you to live the life you have, and let the travelling life come to you when the time is right. Your desire alone will bring it. It doesn’t matter what age you are, or even if you’re not as agile as you were when young. It’s an adventurous spirit that counts.

And yes what we do is certainly possible “in this world”, but not for you just yet I suspect. This is your time for your child, but later things will evolve and change. You’ll be amazed at what life will bring you.
